DESCRIPTION Yamaha YZF-R7 Standard

Yamaha YZF-R7 is expected to launch in India in February 2024 in the expected price range of ₹ 10,00,000 to ₹ 10,10,000. Currently available bikes which are similar to YZF-R7 are Ducati Monster, Aprilia RS 660 & Honda CBR 650R. Another bike similar to YZF-R7 is Triumph Daytona 660 which is launching in April 2024 in India.

Yamaha Motor India has showcased multiple models to its dealers in the country. This list comprises the company’s middleweight motorcycle, the YZF-R7, which is already available for sale in several international markets. We expect the India-bound model to carry similar features and specifications as the international-spec motorcycle.

Thus, the styling of the India-bound Yamaha YZF-R7 will include a single-pod headlight with twin LED DRLs, a YZR-M1 MotoGP bike-style M-shaped air intake, a full-fairing, a clip-on style handlebar, rear-set footpegs, split-style seats, and a compact exhaust. This middleweight product will also get fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors, a muscular (13-litre) fuel tank with a YZF-R1-style fin design, and a YZF-R1-inspired taillight. Similar to the international market, the India-bound Yamaha YZF-R7, too, should be available in two colours – Icon Blue and Yamaha Black.

Then, the mechanical specifications will include the same 689cc, parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled CP2 engine as the international model. Notably, this motor also powers the MT-07. This powertrain uses a 270-degree crankshaft that gives an uneven firing sequence. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor delivers 72.4bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm. The gearbox benefits from an assist and slipper clutch as standard, while a quick shift system is available as an optional extra in the international markets. We expect to see a similar setup on the India-bound model.

The feature list on the international-spec Yamaha YZF-R7 includes full-LED lighting, a negative mode display LCD instrument cluster, an optional quick shift system, and ABS. The hardware includes a diamond-type frame, while the suspension setup includes fully-adjustable, KYB-sourced upside-down front forks, and a preload and rebound damping adjustable monoshock at the back. Meanwhile, the braking tasks are handled by twin radially-mounted 298mm discs at the front and a single 245mm rotor at the back.

The Yamaha YZF-R7 will rival the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda CBR650R in the Indian market. We expect the motorcycle to arrive between the Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom, India) price bracket.
