DESCRIPTION Mahindra Thar AX 4-STR Convertible Petrol MT

Market introduction

After an enormous gap of a decade, Mahindra introduced the all-new second-generation Thar in October 2020.

Variants

The Thar is available in two trim levels - AX optional and LX. Mahindra offers factory-fitted convertible top and hard top choices. Also, the LX trim gets 18-inch alloy wheels while the AX optional comes with a set of 16-inch ones. Moreover, the two doors can be removed for intensive off-roading.

Colours

This iconic all-new off-road vehicle is bigger, better and modern. It is available in six paint options - Rocky Beige, Aquamarine, Mystic Copper, Red Rage, Napoli Black and Galaxy Grey.

Safety

The carmaker offers numerous features in the Thar such as electronic driveline disconnect on the front axle, mechanical locking differential and brake locking differential, TPMS, ESP with rollover mitigation, a roll cage, dual airbags, snow chain provision for tyres and Bluesense app connectivity.

Exterior

Exterior highlights of the next-gen Mahindra Thar include the signature multi-slat grille, circular headlamps, fender-mounted turn indicators, rectangular-shaped LED tail lights, fog lights, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, and dual-tone bumpers. The Thar is offered in three body styles that include hard-top, soft-top, and convertible-top.

Interior

Mahindra has redesigned the interior of the Thar and it is now completely washable with a draining facility. The Thar features an up-to-the-minute cabin-like any modern hatchback or sedan. There is a touchscreen infotainment system in the vehicle which supports smartphone connectivity. Besides, it has a manual gearstick for the four-wheel-drive system.

Engine and transmission

This all-new Thar is equipped with a fresh 1,997cc turbocharged petrol engine mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic. It develops 150bhp at 5,000rpm and 300Nm of torque from 1,250 to 3,000rpm while the automatic powertrain makes 320Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,000rpm. There is the latest generation of tried and trusted mHawk - a 2,184cc diesel engine available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic. It makes 130bhp at 3,750rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800rpm.
